If you are traveling within the Schengen Area (which includes France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Greece), there are generally no border controls between these countries. However, check passport validity requirements and whether you need to register for the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) before departure. Note that the United Kingdom is not in the Schengen Area and requires passing through border controls.

A Eurail Pass allows unlimited travel on participating European train networks. However, high-speed trains (like the TGV in France, Frecciarossa in Italy, and ICE in Germany) and night trains require mandatory seat reservations, which should be booked weeks in advance, especially during the summer.

Always respect structural boundaries. Do not touch ancient masonry or frescoes, as body oils cause erosion. Observe local dress codes when entering active churches or monasteries—specifically covering shoulders and knees. Keep voices low and obey photography restrictions.

While digital card payments are common in most cities, cash is still preferred or required for small purchases in certain countries. For example, traditional German bakeries, Italian gelaterias, and coin-operated public toilets across Europe often only accept cash. Keep small Euro and Pound coins with you.
